Pahwaro Jabal is the name of a mountain in Karachi’s township of Gadap, which spanned over 3000 acres. Its name is made of two Sindhi words. Pah means musibat, struggle, and waro means wale, belonging to. When Sassui walked this mountain in search of her beloved Punnhu in the twelfth century, people witnessed her suffering and named this mountain after her.

www.ofstruggle.com is an interactive browser-based archive that traces the rapid and violent destruction of this mountain at the hands of the real estate mega-development corporation Bahria Town. It explores textured, situated and non-hegemonic ways of visualizing landscapes, the emerging architectures of development and securitisation, and practices of living that resist ongoing occupation and erasure. Research was conduced collectively by participants of Karachi LaJamia’s course Gadap Sessions in 2016. This course was organized in collaboration with Karachi Indigenous Rights Alliance.
